is a Norwegian multinational chain of discount grocery stores, wholly owned by REITAN. REMA is short for Reitan Mat (Reitan Food), which refers to Odd Reitan (founder of the company). 1000 refers to the offering of a selection of only one thousand different products.
It has a fleet of trailers dedicated to transport for its supermarkets.
Headquartered in Oslo, Norway, REMA 1000 has operations in Norway and Denmark. The chain is based on a discount franchise concept: it purchases large quantities of a limited range of products and offers them to semi-independent owners under its own brand. At the end of 2016, Rema 1000 had a total of 868 stores in Norway and Denmark.
