Nistad AS
Nistad AS is a family-run company with strong local roots. Magnus Nistad founded the company in 1967 and later signed an agreement with Bygstad Meieri to operate a milk transport line in the municipality of Gaular. The company gradually expanded and the following year began operating a ferry from Bergensmeieriet, in Sunnfjord, to Bergen. That same year, it also secured a contract with Hansa to transport beer and soft drinks between Bergen and Vadheim.
The owner was the first to introduce truck transport between Sunnfjord and Bergen. Before then, all transport was done by boat.
Managing transport between Sunnfjord and Bergen was difficult both due to poor road conditions and because there was a strong political will at the time to prioritize sea transport to Bergen. However, in 1977, the length limit for cars was changed, and vehicles up to 18 meters in length were legal. This led to a significant increase in traffic.
