Norway flags various sizes and shapes
From the 16th century until 1814 Norway used the same flag as Denmark, as it was in union with that country. In 1814, Norway was unified with Sweden, and in 1815 a flag was designated for the two countries, the Swedish flag with a white cross on a red background in the upper left corner. But the Norwegians, who had created their constitution in 1814, also wanted their own flag, and the current Norwegian flag was designed for this purpose in 1821 by Fredrik Meltzer, a Norwegian businessman and politician, from the city of Bergen.
