Sweden flags various sizes and shapes
The Swedish flag dates back to the 19th century, and is believed to have been modeled on the Swedish national coat of arms, which contains the famous yellow Scandinavian cross on a blue background (conceived in the 15th century by the King, Charles VIII of Sweden) and the flag of Denmark, the Dannebrog . Duke John of Finland, son of the Swedish king Gustav I Vasa, introduced the current Swedish flag into use in 1569. Previously, a similar flag appeared in his duchy coat of arms, which corresponds to today's southeastern Finland.
