Danish Pluche

The project began with a suggestion. Our friend Ashley Coghil suggested we create a decal that would replicate a very famous upholstery pattern in the trucking world: the Danish Pluche.
It all starts with a splash of very bright colours – red, orange, yellow and black – but problems soon arose that needed solving. The first challenge was to scale down the design so that it wouldn’t look out of proportion and would look realistic when applied to a model; the second was to create a graphic pattern with the same shapes and mix of colours, but one that wasn’t too repetitive, to mimic the upholstery.

The third issue is the colour rendering during printing with these beautiful, eye-catching colours, but the first print tests turned out to be a disaster. It took several weeks of testing, with countless changes to the graphics, saturation and contrast, to achieve the desired result.

After various trials and tribulations and countless test prints, involving our trusty Renato too – who, from a graphic design perspective, is a guru to us – we managed to create a product that is pleasing to the eye and simply spectacular in terms of its malleability and adaptability.
