The State Police is a civilian police force, which is part of the Italian police force directly dependent on the Department of Public Security, of the Ministry of the Interior.

This kit is designed for the Alfa Romeo Alfasud model from the Herpa Basic range.
The Alfa Romeo Alfasud represented a significant, albeit often underestimated, chapter in the history of vehicles used by the Italian State Police, serving alongside the more powerful ‘Panthers’ of the era during the 1970s and 1980s.

Historical Context: Introduced in the 1970s, the Alfasud became one of the iconic cars of mass motoring. The State Police began using it for urban patrol duties and the Flying Squad.
Operational Role: As it was not a high-powered car, it was not intended for high-speed motorway chases (a role entrusted to the Giulia and Alfetta), but rather for patrolling the streets, thanks to its excellent road holding and agility, characteristics inherited from the Alfa Romeo brand.
Models Used: Various versions of the Alfasud were deployed during its production run, including models with 1200cc engines and, later, 1300cc and 1500cc engines, the latter offering more spirited performance.
Features of the ‘Pantera’: The police Alfasuds were fitted with the classic grey-green livery of the era, equipped with a siren and blue flashing light on the roof, becoming a familiar sight in Italian cities.
Legacy: Today, some examples of the Alfasud in police livery are preserved in historical museums (such as that of the State Police) and take part in historical re-enactments.
